SYPT

The Swiss Young Physicists' Tournament (SYPT) is a Swiss competition, where physics enthusiasts from middle schools from anywhere in Switzerland participate. In a preparatory phase they carry out a small research project, whose results are presented and defended at the actual tournament.

Participation

Each student in the secondary education stage II who lives in Switzerland can participate at the SYPT. It is easiest if a teach of the corresponding school takes care of the coaching; however, it is not necessary. In the case of questions, we gladly help: Contact us.

Register

Getting Started

  1. Choose one of the current problems.
  2. For ideas on how to start have a look at the Reference Kit.
  3. Read literature about your problem and try to see what could be done that has not already been done.
  4. Investigate the problem using experimental and theoretical methods.
  5. Portray your results in a scientific presentation.

For the first time the SYPT will take place outside the German-speaking part of Switzerland: With the EPFL in Lausanne we have found a very attractive venue for the SYPT 2017, which will take place on March 18 and 19. It seems appropriate because we have organized the SYPT already twice at the ETH Zurich (2013 and 2016) and in 2016 a team from the French-spearking part of Switzerland premiered at the SYPT. We are looking forward to a successfull and interesting tournament and thank the EPFL for their consent!

As a major part of the participants, jurors and also of the organizing committee is from the German-speaking part of Switzerland, the matter of accommodation is relevant. Naturally, the expenses will be borne by Pro IYPT-CH! The participants will be accommodated in the Guest House Lausanne and the jurors and coaches in the Swiss Tech Hotel.

New is the offer of the so called SYPT Physics Week. It allows students to prepare themselves for the SYPT during one week while being coached by experienced SYPT/IYPT coaches. Experimental equipment will be provided. At the Physics Week only the following problems can be worked on: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14.

Pre-Registration is now open until 15th January 2017: fill out this form. For questions please use the contact form.

Erfolgreiches Turnier

Wet and Dark, Perpetuum Mobile das Problem 3. Artificial Muscle und Doped Quasiparticles 14. Circle of Light.
